Splatterpunk horror is coming to World of Darkness blockbuster LARP for the very first time!
Jackalope Live Action Studios is proud to announce The Night In Question, an officially licensed Vampire: The Masquerade blockbuster live-action event. It will run Saturday, November 17, 2018 in Austin, Texas. It is the first licensed blockbuster LARP event explicitly focusing on the most inhuman sect of vampires in the Vampire: The Masquerade games – the Sabbat – set in the famous World of Darkness.
The Night in Question tells a story of dark rites and undead savagery, inspired by films like From Dusk Til Dawn and Near Dark. Set in the late 1990s, the LARP will be saturated with a buckets-of-blood Texas splatterpunk aesthetic. As an illegal rave turns into a mass embrace and bloodbath, the event will allow players to experience firsthand the visceral monstrosity and gore of the Sabbat as they were originally envisioned. Some will play out the deaths of their mortal characters and claw their way out of the grave to be reborn as freshly made members of the Sword of Caine. Others will guide the newly-created vampires down the twisted path of the Sabbat and indoctrinate them as soldiers in their eternal war.
“The Night in Question is very different than the ‘high court’ games like Convention of Thorns or Blood and Betrayal, or the street level human interaction of End of the Line and Enlightenment in Blood. By leaning heavily into the horror aspect of the Sabbat, it will provide something entirely unique for both first time fans and veteran players,” says Matthew Webb, Lead Designer on the project at Jackalope Live Action Studios.
Jackalope Live Action Studios has enlisted the talent of local artists, set designers, creature creators and haunted house veterans to deliver a blood-soaked experience that will leave little to the imagination. The players will be immersed in professional effects and powerful visuals right out of a nightmare. From the gore of blood rituals to the grotesque creations of the Tzimisce, The Night in Question aims to overwhelm and terrify participants – then invite them to take part in a unforgettable night of participatory horror.
“At White Wolf who manages the World of Darkness and its brands like Vampire: The Masquerade, we couldn’t be more excited about this LARP”, says Tobias Sjögren, CEO of White Wolf Entertainment. “We know this will be a spectacular experience for the participants and we really look forward to working with Jackalope Studios while they strive to make LARP events a continuously growing business.”
This team will be advised by Bjarke Pedersen and Johanna Koljonen from Participation Design Agency (PDA), creators of the Diana Jones award-nominated Nordic Vampire game End of the Line and the immensely successful Enlightenment in Blood. PDA will be helping guide the writing of the event, and help design safety techniques and workshops for the players. Great care is being taken to use consent and calibration techniques pioneered by Participation Design Agency and implemented successfully by Jackalope in high intensity games in the United States such as A War of Our Own. Using these techniques, The Night In Question will allow safely roleplay into the horrific depths of this event.
Tickets will be on sale soon, and are expected to start at less than $200. The event will also include special packages that will include handcrafted fangs; special effects make-up work, customized characters and hotel accommodations. Group packages will be available as well.
